Buying John Williams soundtracks before seeing the movie…

I have a weakness for John Williams’ movie soundtracks – I always end up buying (or legally downloading) the soundtracks before I have seen the movie.  I did this for all the Harry Potter movies that he worked on, the three Star Wars prequels, and now I just downloaded “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

The obvious problem is that sometimes the title of a track contains major spoilers. There don’t appear to be any major spoilers for this movie, but in “Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace“, if you look at the track listing, you find out that Qui-Gon dies. (The odds against that being a spoiler for anyone who happens to read this is about a googolplex to 1.)

  1. I feel the same way about Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. In particular, I love the way they collaborated on Batman Begins.

  2. I have to get that soundtrack – it was perfect for the movie.

I thought Hans Zimmer’s score for Gladiator was great.
